Rev. Samuel Bullock heads Baptist Pastors Council

A Wayne State University political science professor, Ron Brown, says pastors have a right to engage in the political process. "Pastors in this city have on occasions seen themselves as the voice of the people and grassroots lobbyists," Brown said. "They see their role as both spiritual and political." Brown said Detroit is a progressive city and perhaps the only place in the country where Black clergy is actively involved in politics. He said that began with the advent of the Black power movement years ago. "You would not find this in Chicago or Los Angeles," he added.
